As Global System for Mobile of GSM starts to invade the Philippine in late 1998, Globe Telecom became more known to people as a major rival of the SMART Communications, Inc in the mobile telephony field. It is a telecommunication company that primarily offers fixed-in line telephony and cellular telephony.  As innovation hits the country, GT started to offer more services such as broadband services, fixed-line telephony and remittances via G-Cash.

The corporation is owned by the Singapore Telecommunications (45%), by the Ayala Corporation (34%) and the remaining 21% is publicly traded at the Philippine Stock Exchange.
