Asked to interweave their Thomasian formation and their philosophy in life, Justin Hebreo & Charm Chamberlin spoke of two different views that were both ultimately brilliant to fit the demands of the ‘Ideal Thomasian Personalities’ title.
In the prop-clad Medicine Auditorium last February 3 were Bb. Pilipinas Universe Jeniffer Barrientos, a student from the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management, UST Health Service Director Dr. Maria Salve Olalia, Modelo ng Pilipinas President Dennis Arta, and Fashion Designer Kermit Tesoro to judge this year’s pageant, which thematically embodied the complete spectrum of the colorful city of Manila, complete with street decorations and old-school OPM music.
Hebreo, a freshman from the AMV College of Accountancy, proved to be deserving of the Best in Essay Award after delivering his words with much eloquence to eventually land the coveted title.
“(My Philosophy in life is) Never deny God’s existence,” he began, explaining that UST has imbibed in him the characters of sincere faith. “The totality of my being lies on the supremacy of God.”
Crowd favorite Junior Nursing student Chamberlin, justified her early streak with her dignified claims of being someone who wants to be behind people at all times. “As a nurse, I want to always be there for people,” she said, “and UST has made me into an intelligent and compassionate person to be able to do that.”
Among Chamberlin’s awards were Best in Theme Wear, Best in Casual Wear and Modelo ng Pilipinas Awards. Besides the Essayist award, Hebreo also bagged the Best in Theme wear and Best in Formal wear awards.
Included in the Top Ten were Marvin Wynant & Tina Marasigan from the College of Science, Ed Lara & Rica Aranera from the Faculty of Arts and Letters, Zarah Oblena from the AMV-College of Accountancy, Vincent Santos from the College of Nursing, Jan Michael de Jesus from the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, and Cristina Reyes from the College of Fine Arts and Design.
The finalists were the official spokespeople for the Student Organization Coordinating Council’s (SOCC) Advocacy called I can stand up for nature which raises awareness on environmental problems faced by the Philippines and the world. SOCC announced that the Tan Yan Kee student center will turn into a styro-free building as an initiative to the advocacy.
