Salinggawi and IPEA Hosts DANSOREA

The 24th annual dance competition entitled Dance [Social Realities] or DANSOREA was held last August 18, 2009 at the UST Gym. DANSOREA was a joint project by the Salinggawi Dance Troupe and the Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA).


DANSOREA aims to let the Thomasian Community to be aware of the social issues happening not only in the Philippines but around the world, as well. The competition has three categories; solo, pair/trio, and group.  The contestants must show a relevant social issue through dance. Issues like Poverty, Prostitution, and Suicide were some of the issues performed by the contestants.


Dance Troupes from different colleges came to participate; Arki Dance Troupe (College of Architecture), Engineering Dance Troupe (Faculty of Engineering), One Shade (College of Fine Arts and Design), Paci Ruthmos (College of Accountancy), Pax Romana Danzalegis (College of Commerce) and Rhthmyx Dance Troupe (College of Education).


The event started with the UST Science Glee Club leading the Doxology and the Philippine National Anthem. Felicitas R. Francisco, Assistant Directress of IPEA, gave her Opening Remarks. Diane Claire Querer, UAAP courtside announcer and Echo Dimansala, Cosmopolitan’s Bachelor for 2009 were the emcees for the event. Before the competition proper started, Mediartrix gave a very entertaining intermission number. The competition started with the Solo Category, and then the Pair/Trio category and the competition ended with the Group category. Three renowned choreographers and dancers were the judges of the event, Ms. Cecille Martinez, Mr. John Misiña, and Ms. Vinia Peralta. The closing act of the night was a band performance from the UST Highschool. Then, the Certificates of Appreciation were given to the judges.


Cecille Martinez was assigned to announce the winners of the Solo Category. Joshua Dixon Sanoria from One Shade was the 2nd Runner-Up, Arnel Villanueva from One Shade was the 1st Runner-Up and the Champion was Kristina Chua from the Arki Dance Troupe. John Misiña announced the winners of the Pair/Trio Category. Rhthmyx Dance Troupe was 2nd Runner-Up, Arki Dance Troupe was 1st Runner-Up and One Shade was Champion. Finally, Vinia Peralta announced the winners of the Group category, the Engineering Dance Troupe won 2nd Runner-Up, One Shade won 1st Runner-Up and Paci Ruthmos was Champion.

It was an evening of music and rhythm, an evening of realization for the Thomasian community, as well.
