Mang Toots: Serving for Thomasian’s Taste Buds

Published

Enjoy your food in a place where sense of festivity is always present.

Two Q’s: Quality and Quantity. These are the two essential ingredients of a food house which has been very infamous to the Thomasian community, “Mang Toots”. Along Padre Noval Street, Sampaloc Manila, several tables with umbrellas line up signaling that you are now passing the Mang Toots food house which is known for catering variety of food with very affordable prices.

Eighteen years in the business, its owner Edwin “Toots” Vergara  always make sure that their food will always be the best in town. Throughout the years, Mang Toots has been very particular in escalating the choices of food he serves to his customers especially for the Thomasians. His menu consists of the special and customer’s all time favorite Sisig, Liempo, Breaded Chicken, Korean Barbeque and many others that completes his top ten delicacies each day.

As a professional chef in a hotel before, Mang Toots applies the norms of cooking in a hotel to his food house. Every time he cooks, he ensures that the ingredients of his dishes are fresh and absolute according to his recipe.

Since most of his customers are students, Mang Toots followed the trend of serving desserts as other rival food houses do. He thought of a dessert which can be enjoyed by many of the students even while walking, reading or studying. He wanted to please the taste buds of every student in a way that they will not put away big amount of money from their pockets.

So after years of soul-searching for the best dessert that will fit to his menu, he came up with the now renowned “Banana RhumA”. Banana RhumA is a dessert following the standard ingredients of the traditional turon, and to add some twist on it, Mang Toots uses rhum and cinnamon to intensify its delightful taste. In a very affordable nine pesos per serving, customers will really enjoy the mouthwatering taste of Banana RhumA.

Mang Toots believes that hospitality is the best way to his customer’s heart. He reassures that customers will come back again the next day for that indeed sumptuous yet affordable meal. “I am thankful to God that they are enjoying my food and they serve as inspiration for me to cook more and serve them the best of my recipes.”

With a festive and very light mood inside and out of the food house, customers will really enjoy the high-quality yet affordable food of Mang Toots.
