Here’s another fitness center option that will fit the qualities gym-goers out there look for.

Located at the corner of Laong Laan and V. Concepcion Street is the Adrenaline Fitness Gym that offers a worthy workout with its competitive state-of-the-art facilities, trusted trainers, and positive atmosphere.

“We have semi-commercial gym equipments and we offer good service to our clients,” said Roxanne De los Reyes, receptionist of the said gym. She added that their clients are given proper fitness program which is designed relatively by Jet Agriam, the manager.

Every client has a fitness program which depends on their own fitness goals like weight loss, weight gain, body building, strength and conditioning, and muscle toning.

Allen, a graduating student of UST-Commerce and a regular gym goer of Adrenaline Fitness stated: “I’ve been going to the gym for already four years and I came here a year ago when it was newly made. I find the trainers okay, they have good facilities and I like the ambiance here… and you can also approach the trainer for personal training if you want.”

“It’s good here. The program I took before was weight gain. I was 115lbs then and now, after a year and two months, I’m weighing 162lbs. Of course, self-discipline on proper diet is also great factor for this result. But the best thing I like in this gym is the good services they offer and here you won’t feel uncomfortable because the people (the gym-mates and staffs) here are friendly,” said Marvin Macapagal, another client of Adrenaline.

He also added that he was satisfied on how the gym maintains it cleanliness comparing to other gyms around the place.

For beginners, the gym first requires the client to create a profile where personal information is asked from the client. This also includes a check on health risk factors which the trainer considers in setting up a fitness program for the client.

They are assisted by the gym trainers Jet Agriam, Jeoffrey Yutadco, both registered physical therapist, Bernie Yvanez whose specialty is boxing, and two assistant trainers named Arnie Tabise and Jay-Ar Raguindin.

Adrenaline Fitness gym owned by Mr. Isagani T. Pantoja also offers mixed dance aerobics every Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00-8:00am. They also prepare specialized workouts for athletes of Basketball, Volleyball, Martial Arts, and other sports.

The gym is open every Mondays to Fridays from 8am-10pm and from 8pm to 5pm during Saturdays. TW

Reviews: Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

Published

Grave of the Fireflies, a 1988 Japanese animated full-length film, written and directed by Isao Takahata, is considered by critics as the best anti-war film and one of Studio Ghibli’s most profoundly beautiful and haunting works.

In Sannomiya Station toward the end of World War II in Japan, a young boy, Seita, in ragged moth-eaten clothes dies of starvation. Unruffled, unmoved and untroubled, his body and spirit passes away amidst the restlessness of the train station. A janitor, seeing his death as trivial, comes and forages through his possessions and finds a candy tin can containing ashes and bones. Seeing this as useless, he throws it out into the open grass, allowing the spirit of Seita to be rekindled with the spirit of his younger sister, Setsuko, where Seita starts to narrate their story.

Grave of the Fireflies is a deeply humanized animated tale of the relationship between two orphaned children Seita and Setsuko during war-time Japan, where they struggled to live a happy and ordinary life like young vagabonds in the presence of great tragedy and fear. First living with their ungenerous relatives starving and calling them ungrateful little brats, they bravely decide to try to survive on their own. Seita and Setsuko, with only a candy tin can and a half-empty jar of white rice that was traded for theirdead mother’s old kimonos, take refuge in an abandoned shelter near the river. Seita and Setsuko, childish and lighthearted, continue to live a rustic way of life as they try to realize that each day would be more and more difficult, with no rice to eat and only fireflies as their candlelight.

Though the movie is depressingly hard to watch, this animated feature powerfully enunciates real human conditions and evokes the experiences of childhood grief of two cast-off children burdened with adult responsibilities, living crisis within a crisis in a forlorn system (every man or child for himself) where they soon become casualties of war.

Grave of the Fireflies, is one of the most painfully excruciating movies one is ever likely to see, animated or otherwise.
