It was a night of glitz and glamour as 13 fine-looking gentlemen and 13 exquisitely beautiful ladies in the hopes of bringing pride and glory to their respective colleges contended in the University’s annual Search for the Ideal Thomasian Personality 2010 last February 16 at the Medicine Auditorium.
Ken Lizardo and Diane Querrer showcased their hosting skills as Masters of Ceremony. The select judges were Lia Andrea Ramos, Eric Soriano and Jonas Gaffud of Mercator Model Management, Jan Enriquez, Cristalle Belo-Henares, Dra. Cielo Adajar Dental Services with Asst. Prof. Mercedes Buendia of the Alumni Affairs as the Chairman of the Board.
One Voice, winner of the Himig Tomasino made the Invocation which is ensued by an AVP of the Pre-pageant staged last January 23 at the Albertus Magnus Building showcasing the candidates in their respective theme wear. The theme of this year’s pageant centered on the emblems of nationalism which depicts the Filipino culture and its unique identity.
The candidates flaunted their casual wear thereafter and had casual interviews with the Masters of Ceremony. As part of the formal wear segment, Mithi and One Shade delivered outstanding performances whilst the contestants walked in their designer gowns and barong.
The winners of the special awards were Mr. Pharmacy and Ms. CTHM for Best in Uniform; Mr. Music for Best in Essay; Mr. Architecture and Ms. CTHM for Best in Talent; Mr. Music for Mr. Congeniality; Ms. Science for the Ideal Thomasian Environmentalist; Mr. Education and Ms. CTHM for Mr. and Ms. Photogenic; Mr. Education and Ms. CFAD for Mr. and Ms. Mercator Models; Mr. Architecture and Ms. CTHM for Mr. and Ms. Adajar Dental Services; Mr. Pharmacy and Ms. CTHM for Mr. & Ms. Belo Body Essentials; Mr. Education and Ms. CTHM for Mr. & Ms. JobsDB People’s Choice Award garnering a total of 11, 520 and 89, 036 votes respectively; Mr. Architecture and Ms. CTHM for Best in Casual Wear; Mr. Pharmacy and Ms. CTHM for Best in Formal Wear; and Mr. Science with Ms. CTHM for Best in Theme Wear.
Making it to the top five finalists were Glenn Davit Funk (Mr. Architecture), Pepe Felicita (Mr. Education), Ralph Bejar (Mr. Pharmacy), Jose Samaniego IV (Mr. CRS) and Angel Jose Resurrecion (Mr. Science) for the male category while Ma. Cristina Cipriano (Ms. Arts & Letters), Maria Andrea Abesamis (Ms. CFAD), Janine Mari Tagunon (Ms. Pharmacy), Hazel Hao (Ms. Science) and Joanna Cindy Miranda (Ms. CTHM) for the female category.
Scores were brought back to zero after the top five male and female finalists had been announced. The final question was the a crucial deciding factor in selecting the winners. It centered on the outstanding qualities of each candidate as a Thomasian, nay, a Filipino towards propagating a stimulus for change in the societal context. Justin Hebreo and Charm Charmberlin, Thomasian Ideal Personalities of 2009 did their final walk before passing on the title.
Jose Samaniego IV (Mr. CRS) and Ma. Cristina Cipriano (Ms. Arts & Letters) were awarded 2nd runner-up whilst Pepe Felicita (Mr. Education) and Joanna Cindy Miranda (Ms. CTHM) were named first runner-up. Ralph Bejar and Janine Mari Tagunon both representing the Faculty of Pharmacy emerged as the new titleholders of the prestigious university-wide pageant.
Truly, this annual tradition stands quite a spectacle in fostering the Thomasian exemplar of personality which couples beauty with intelligence and most importantly a high regard for morally upright values.
