Four medical technology seniors from the Faculty of Pharmacy snatched the top prize of the 35th Philippine Association of Schools of Medical Technology (PASMETH) National Inter-School Quiz Show, Thursday, Sept. 15.

        Shaira Rae Billena, Neill Steven Cachuela, Carissa June Ferreras, and Joshua Galvez bested contestants from 54 other schools, receiving a trophy, individual medals, and cash prize.

        “Everything was worth it, we literally cried in the end kasi nung una nape-pressure pa [kami] and kinakabahan. Sobrang daming magagaling na ibang schools, the quiz show was unpredictable talaga. But through God’s grace, we made it,” Ferreras told TomasinoWeb in an interview.

        She added that representing UST was a great privilege “and at the same time, nakakapressure kasi big name ang UST, di siya basta basta na school.”

        UST improved its performance from last year’s first runner-up finish. Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation placed second, while Agnes University Foundation ranked third.

      Prior to the competition, the team had intensive review sessions under the guidance of their head coach Assistant Professor Gregorio Martin.

     The quiz bee was part of the annual 45th Medical Technology Week celebration and organized by PASMETH.

        PASMETH, established in 1970, is the national organization of all recognized schools in the country offering degrees in medical technology and public health. Dr. Gustavo Reyes from UST, was the first president of the organization.
